Greenhouse Botanical Garden, Zurich

The research greenhouse of the University of Zurich was built in 2004/2005. Due to leaks, cracked and partially "clouded" glass panes in the roof over time, a complete renovation of the glass roof had to be planned just 10 years after construction.

The condition analysis revealed that wind bracing was missing from the structure and that the execution had led to leaks and other problems.

The steel structure was retained, reinforced with wind bracing, and fitted with a completely new glass roof. After extensive measurements, the glass panes were selected to correspond as closely as possible to the existing glass, but without the high heat gain of the old glass.
