St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital

The expansion of the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital comprises two high-rise ward buildings with nine and eleven upper floors respectively, as well as a low-rise plinth building with three upper floors.

1st prize in competition

The buildings have one to two basement levels; in the central section, a seven-level underground parking garage is also planned, which will be constructed using the top-down method. As is practical for hospital buildings, the supporting structure features a regular column grid of 8.10 m. The construction is primarily cast-in-place concrete, while the columns and facade elements are prefabricated.

Construction is scheduled for 2015 to 2026. The scale of the project, the long construction period, the central location of the expansion between closely adjacent existing hospital buildings, and the requirement for uninterrupted hospital operations entail a multitude of highly complex technical and logistical challenges that we are pleased to undertake.
