Spa Theater Baden

The heritage-listed Spa Theater, built in 1952 as a summer theater, was extensively renovated and expanded. The expansion includes a new backstage area, a rehearsal room, and an extension of the foyer. The seismic safety of the existing theater building was enhanced.

1st prize in competition

To ensure contemporary operation of the theater, the stage area was supplemented on the north side with the newly constructed backstage area. The new structure was built using a cantilevered solid construction method to avoid imposing additional load on the existing stage structure. The interior and exterior heritage-listed masonry walls of the auditorium were reinforced against seismic forces using vertical prestressing. Additional reinforced concrete walls and steel supports anchored with micropiles serve as further seismic strengthening measures. In the Sachs Foyer, the steel components were reinforced in close consultation with monument preservation authorities, with maximum consideration for appearance and substance preservation, to increase insufficient load-bearing reserves.
