Halle 550, Zurich-Oerlikon

The former ABB industrial hall in Zurich-Oerlikon underwent a fundamental conversion, so that in the future it can be operated not only as an interim use, but regularly and permanently as an event hall with a capacity of up to approx. 5,000 people.

The renovation of the old industrial hall included the repair of the supporting structure and the conversion of the existing premises. Various new installations, conversions and extensions were carried out. Wherever possible, the existing structure was retained and locally reinforced or supplemented as required. To accommodate the large technical building equipment systems (building services systems), a steel extension was planned and implemented on the existing structure of Hall C1.

With the addition of a story and an integrated steel girder grid, the over 110-year-old concrete ribbed ceiling could be shielded from additional loads and thus remain visible as an architectural design element despite fire protection requirements.
